Cascade Corp Trade Show Design

I was contracted by Cascade Corporation to design the trade show booth backdrop graphics and booth layout for the CeMat Trade Show in Germany.  I was responsible for the layout of the booth which included the design of the vertical space as well. The booth needed to fit several large pieces of equipment that are part of the Cascade Corporation product line. The booth also included several groupings of furniture for sales staff to meet with customers.

The graphics needed to showcase the vast array of products Cascade Corporation sells. The shape of the large backdrop was designed to be unique with an arch mirroring many of the identity elements from Cascade’s marketing materials. The backdrop was designed to rise high above the other booths nearby. It needed to be seen from the other side of the convention hall.

I was responsible for the graphic design, environmental 3D modeling in Sketchup, and management of all the print services. Along with the booth backdrop, I was responsible for all the marketing material handed out at the trade show.

The booth and all the accompanying 3D elements was a great success. They improved client conversion during the Trade Show as well as increased traffic from previous years.

Intel Open Source Technology Center – Trade Show Display

I designed this backdrop display for a world-wide trade show, which Intel was a participant, for the Open Source community . I designed the graphics to fit on the curved backdrop surface using many key words and phrases in a consistent ribbon across the entire backdrop. The key words and phrases was a combination of all the Open Source projects that Intel has supported and been involved in in recent years. Intel needed to highlight several key items. I used bold and bright colors to set off against the near monotone backdrop so as to emphasis the key points. Along with the bold colors, I made the key items jump off the backdrop by breaking the top edge with the circular shapes. This effect brought even more emphasis to the key items.

Along with the graphic design for the backdrop, I created a 3D model in Sketchup to illustrate how the entire booth space may be set up.

Intel Open Source Technology Center

Intel contracted me to play an integral part in the design and functionality of the Intel Open Source community website 01.org. I designed iconography and navigation for the site from the ground up to be responsive. The design is clean and elegant so as to not detract from the projects featured on 01.org.

Intel AppUp website advertising

Intel’s propriety client AppUp was not only a downloadable client application, it was was supported by a website. Before a customer downloaded AppUp, they could browse all available apps and read about what services AppUp offered. Advertising was placed throughout the AppUp website to entice new customers to download the client. Each piece of advertising needed to be in multiple sizes. The challenge here was to keep the integrity of the ad while designing within a wide variety of specifications. As you can see from the below example, I created the same ad in three drastically different sizes but each retains the same message. The look and feel is the same on all three as well despite the vastly different sizes. For web services, people can check out Brisbane web development services.

Along with ads for AppUp, I did many more different types of graphics for a variety of apps. Each graphic I created had to stand on its own but at the same time hold true to the brand and identity of the app it was advertising. Many times I created more than 5 different size ads for each ad.

I was also responsible for creating alternate language versions for any advertising that was used to promote a sale or highlight a featured app. Languages included American English, UK English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian. Each language has a different length of text to say the same thing. I had to make sure that the integrity of the ad stayed intact while each language translation was created.

Intel App Up Carousel

Intel contracted HDH to be its sole designer for applications wishing to be sold through Intel’s proprietary app store called AppUp. It was my responsibility to create graphics for the in app carousel, which highlighted new and featured apps. I was also responsible for creating all graphic icons for all apps on AppUp. I created a process so that I could efficiently create new icons whenever new apps were added to AppUp.

AppUp evolved over the time I was working with Intel. I became the go to person for any testing of new advertising ideas. I also created numerous Powerpoint presentations and marketing material to promote these new ideas.

Lynch Mechanical Logo and Identity

Lynch Mechanical is a well established mechanical piping contractor. They services multiple industries, many of which are commercial. Lynch was a part of a larger brand before being purchased from an independent owner. The new owner, now not affiliated with the Lynch brand, wanted a new identity for Lynch Mechanical that no longer resembled the Lynch umbrella company that it once belonged too.

Being rooted in the industrial and mechanical industry, Lynch Mechanical needed to connect itself visually to its products and services. The “L” shape represents a segmented pipe. The circle around it represents the connecting ring at the end of of a pipe segment. Using these simple elements shows the viewer at a glance what Lynch Mechanical is about.

The color scheme was chosen to differentiate Lynch Mechanical from its competitors in the industry. Many companies in the industrial services industry choose blue as a primary color for their identity. Choosing red differentiates Lynch. The tone of the red and gray are very similar as to not have one color override the other. The two colors are very much in harmony.

The client was very happy with the look of this logo. Two options were created as to give the client maximum flexibility when using the logo for their businesses purposes. Since the inception of the logo, Lynch has contracted Harris Design House to design business cards, letter head, email signature, envelopes. HDH has also designed a design for Lynch Mechanical service trucks. This design stands out with the use of bold colors and curved lines that are customized to fit the doors of the work trucks.

Lewis & Clark Bank Brochure

Client: Lewis & Clark Bank

Challenge: To create one piece of printed material that would encapsulate all the offered services of Lewis & Clark Bank. The bank had recently rebranded and wanted a piece that would compliment the new brand but stand a lone as an informative piece of literature.

Solution: I met with the marketing manager of Lewis & Clark Bank several times to decide what information needed to be featured in this piece. Once the content had been decided, the form was then decided to be a familiar 11×17 single fold saddle stitched booklet. I took the required information and created a grid to ensure that the content would be displayed consistently. Styles were created to ensure consistency as well. I used the brand to frame the content in an elegant and attractive way so as to not distract from the content but to compliment it. The client was very happy with the piece and decided to use it as an in house training tool for employees. I have worked with Lewis & Clark on several different projects since.

PM Industries Website Redesign

Client: PM Industries, inc. Manufacturer of hi-tech components

Challenge: To rebuild the company website that had been neglected for many years. The goal to was to modernize the website along side the refresh of the PM Industries brand. The website needed to be modern, fresh and engaging without too much distraction. I chose to go with a 3 column design that allows the user to access and read information easily. With it’s competitors growing exponentially every year, PM Industries needed a refreshed website to once again become the leader in it’s industry of manufacturing parts for the most advanced technologies and set itself apart from it’s competition. I chose to design the website as a brochure style to be the most informative.

Solution: I worked with PM Industries throughout the entire process of ideation, conceptualization, design, and implementation. I was a constant source of information and support for anything they needed me for including design, copywriting, and photography. I managed the client relations and the entire process from start to finish. PM Industries was stuck in the past. The only way they could move forward was to refresh their brand and their website to make it more accessible to their clientele. The home page of the site has an engaging rotator. This image rotator highlights PM Industries services and philosophies. It is the first impression that brings the viewer in and encourages the reader to continue to read. The site also allows for the visitor to be able to contact the sales staff with questions about services. The site has been very successful in increasing leads and increasing awareness of the multitude of services PM Industries offers.

PM Industries Brand Refresh

Client: PM Industries, inc. Manufacturer of hi-tech components

Challenge: To refresh a brand that has been in existence for 40 years to bring the look and feel of the traditional company into the new era of design. With it’s competitors growing exponentially every year, PM Industries needed a refresh to once again become the leader in it’s industry of manufacturing parts for the most advanced technologies and set itself apart from it’s competition.

The only way they could move forward was to refresh their brand with modern style and color scheme. I chose a font that is both technical and has movement to it. The base idea of the refresh was to not completely recreate their brand (because they are recognizable in the industry over the past 40 years), it was to bring forth a new fresh, modern and more polished look. They had no identity to speak of. No color scheme. No font styles. I created all of this for them. Then I took the new refreshed brand identity and applied it to a complete website redesign and rebuild.

Dewey’s Frozen Yogurt Website

Client: Dewey’s Frozen Yogurt website design and illustration

Challenge: I was contracted by Spot Color Studio to create a website for Dewey’s Frozen Yogurt. The site needed to be colorful and engaging. The site needed to have something that was a focal point of interest that could give character to site. That character needed to be focused around the identity of Dewey’s Frozen Yogurt, Dewey the dog.

Solution: I worked with Spot Color Studio to design an entire look and feel of the website including illustrated graphics, navigation and Flash animated character. The concept was creating a website with bright colors to keep the visitor engaged. The site included menus, specials, news, and events. To increase engagement and appeal of the site, I created a Flash animated character that appeared when the site loaded. Dewey the dog was the mascot of Dewey’s Frozen Yogurt. He was represented in the logo as a silhouette. I gave life to Dewey by creating the animated illustration.

Tacoma Art Museum RFP (Request For Proposal)

Client: Hoffman Construction Company

Challenge: Design a proposal that focuses on the Western art style which correlates to a new addition being added to the Tacoma Art Museum. The proposal design also needed to tie back to the RFQ (Request for Qualifications) phase for this same project but have its own style and character.

Solution: I featured Western art on the front cover in a unique and interesting way hinting at the modern style of the museum itself. I chose a color scheme that represented this style of art. The presentation of the art was a derivative of the RFQ. Bands of angled shapes captured the art in “slivers” that hint at the bold color bands of the RFQ. The back cover of the book is identicle except for the color. The bands of color were replaced by bands of varying tones of orange and brown. This theme was very well accepted by the client. Hoffman was chosen for the interview round for this project in which this same style was utilized to continue a cohesive message.
